Code of Conduct – COVID-19

STAFF AND STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT WITH RESPECT TO COVID-19 and RETURNING TO CAMPUS

This CODE OF CONDUCT is applicable to both UKZN Staff and Students.  Its purpose is to inform of the rules, protocols, responsibilities and obligations applicable to Staff and Students who return to campus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 is going to persist for a considerable period, and to date the pandemic has had a sever impact globally and nationally, sparing no one.  The first South African case was diagnosed in Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal, on 5 March 2020. Staff and Student Responsibilities and Obligations

As a Student or Staff member invited back to campus, I acknowledge that I shall be required to comply with this specific Code of Conduct relating to Covid-19 in addition to all others that are already applicable to me.  In this regard, I acknowledge the import and accept the necessity to provide the following acknowledgements and undertakings, namely:

  1. That I shall only be permitted to return to campus if I have received an official invite from the approved university authority to do so.
  2. That prior to applying for the requisite travel permit to return to campus to render service, take up residence and/or commence academic study, and immediately at any time subsequent thereto, I shall disclose to the university in the manner prescribed, if:
    • I feel unwell and have experienced one or more of the following symptoms in the last few days:
  • a history of fever, feeling hot and cold at times and/or body pains
  • a general feeling of weakness and/or tiredness
  • a cough and/or shortness of breath
  • a sore throat
  • a loss of the sense of taste and/or smell
    • During the last 14 days I have:
  • had close contact with a COVID-19 infected person
  • been in a place(s) where COVID-19 infections have been reported or is prevalent
    • I am, or have any one or more of the following:
  • more than 28 weeks pregnant
  • suffer from a chronic condition of the lungs (including Asthma), or kidneys (on dialysis) or liver.
  • poorly controlled diabetes
  • immunocompromised for some reason
  • poorly controlled moderate or severe hypertension
  • suffer from a serious heart condition
  • a BMI greater than 40 (morbid obesity)
  • 60 year of age or older (Staff)
  1. That on my return to campus, I shall take personal responsibility for my health and well- being and that of others by:
  • making daily use of the UKZN COVID-19 screening APP (https://selfscreen.ukzn.ac.za) prior to exiting my university residence room, or before leaving my home to travel and enter the campus
  • immediately advising the responsible university persons if I screen as ORANGE or RED on the screening APP, so that I can seek assistance as necessary
  • not leaving my home or my university residence room, if my self-screen presents an orange or red report or I feel unwell, with the intention of coming onto campus until I have received university permission to do so
  • wearing a mask at all times (including when using public transport) whenever I leave my home or university residence room, with the intention of coming onto campus
  • wearing a mask at all times whilst on the university campus
  • ensuring that I practice responsible coughing, sneezing and greeting etiquette at all times, and carefully and thoughtfully disposing of used tissues and paper towels
  • ensuring that I frequently wash my hands with soap and water, and use hand sanitizer
  • by constantly be mindful of, and adhering to, the physical distancing requirement of 1.5 – 2 meters from another person or persons
  • self-shielding or maintaining a self-imposed self- quarantine whenever possible
  • restricting my movement to that which is absolutely essential on and around campus and within my community, including all teaching, learning, research and living spaces
  • limiting time spent in any communal spaces (LANS, kitchens, bathrooms etc.), at all times considering the number of other people already in the space before entering or who may need to enter the space, so that the physical distancing requirements can be ensured and maintained
  • complying with any requirements related to testing, or tracking and tracing
  • complying with any quarantine requirements that may be required of me on the recommendation of the University
  • abiding in letter and in spirit with the University COVID-19 Rules, Protocols and Codes of Conduct including the rules and regulations and laws of our Country
  • not creating, distributing, spreading and/or forwarding fake news or information relating to COVD-19 that could be detrimental to self, others and/or the University

Okubhekene Nokufanele Kwenziwe Abasebenzi Nabafundi

  • ukwazisa abathintekayo baseNyuvesi uma ngithole ukuthi umphumela wami wokuhlolwa unombala o-OLINTSHI noma OBOMVU ku-APP, ukuze ngithole usizo njengokwesidingo
  • ukungaphumi endlini yami yaseNyuvesi, uma ukuzihlola kwami kuveza umbiko o-olintshi noma obomvu noma uma ngingazizwa kahle, ngihlose ukuya ekhempasini kuze kutholakale imvume yeNyuvesi ukuze ngenze njalo
